Ellie Robinson, aged 14 who attends Class Act Theatre school took it upon herself to apply to the YOF panel for funding to take part in a local dance festival.
Having been successful in her request Ellie was supported by Rachel Sykes from Class Act in co-ordinating the Friday evening rehearsals and recruiting members to take part in the show. 30 young people aged 13-19yrs attended classes and rehearsal each week and worked together to determine the theme of the dance and decide upon costumes and music.
Laura Ann Gill, a Manchester based choreographer, was booked to deliver a 10 week course in preparation for the ultimate performance on Saturday evening.
Rachel Sykes from Class Act Theatre school said “I was amazed at the dedication of these young people throughout the whole project, Ellie and her friends were involved from beginning to end and now have a greater knowledge of co-ordinating an event on this scale, whilst fulfilling their ambition to perform at the Winter Gardens.” She added “I was so proud of the team”
Blackpool Youth Fund aims to improve provision of positive activities for young people aged 13-19, particularly for those who are disadvantaged.
Ellie’s comments on the performance were “It was an awesome experience and great to see all the hard work was finally paying off”, adding “we don’t know what we will do with our Friday nights"
